Just
Beyond The
River Bend

  • A look at the house
  • A hike on the land
  • A place for a vision
At a bend in the Greenbriar River is a 167 acre farm.

A thickly forested gorge that is two hundred feet wide and two hundred feet deep splits the farm is into a small section (of 25 acres), and a large one (142 acres).

On the small section is an awesome house that looks out over the Greenbriar River.

Fred is back in the wilderness!

He and Kiva have owned this farm for almost a year. He seems most excited about what could be done on the larger section of the farm. It's mostly forested with patches of open areas.

We wanted to see the land, but we first checked out the house . .

The five-sided front room is HUGE.

This is the northern side of the front room. The light is near the computer desk. Back to right and out of the picture is a sliding door to the porch that surrounds this room. Further to the right are steps that go down half a floor to the kitchen and the basement.

The window looks out toward the upstream portion of the river.

This is the front room's southern side.

On the left you see half of an inside door that shuts off the front room from the back part of the house, which contains three bedrooms and double garage.

Both this picture and the previous one were taken from the platform at the top of a five-sided set of stairs that rises up in the front room and leads to the bedrooms

The front room has an open-beam ceiling.

In this picture, you can see the center window in this five-sided room. The window has a view of the down-stream bend of the Greenbriar.

Kath and I road with Fred up the north edge of the gorge in an old truck that came with the farm.

By walking along the river side, the north-western property line, we arrived at the Point, right above the river bend.

We could see a side view of the house across the gorge. The back portion of the house has the curved window of the kitchen downstairs and the master bedroom upstairs.

Standing on the Point and looking upstream, away from the house, we saw the Greenbriar River and the farms beyond.

The river is 1500 feet above sea level. The house and land are at 1700 feet.

In the distance (on the left), too light to see in this picture, is a 3000 foot peak.

This shot was taken from a 17-acre section that a neighbor wants to sell to Fred.

The land is along the north edge of the farm. It contains the right-of-way that is a less exciting route up to the farm than the steep gorge trail.

This is a view of the neighboring farm to the north.

This picture was taken the next day in the morning light, from in front of the house.

The tree on the right is on this side of the gorge. The thin line of trees beyond is across the gorge -- they mark the spot called the Point.

Straight down from the Point is the river bend.
