Finding a
Perfect
Place

  • The fog lifts
  • A town appears
  • An inviting melody is played
At the end of a long day of flying and driving, we arrived at where we were meant to be. And met a woman who rents rooms for one week each year -- State Fair.

When we awoke the next morning, the mist was beginning to clear.

This little town sparkles!

Partially because the nearby Greenbriar Hotel employs 1600 people and attracts wealthy tourists.

The style of the town's galleries and restaurants reminded me of what Santa Fe, Aspen, or San Francisco might have been before lots of people arrived.

A great health food store is right in the middle of town.

At the other end of the spectrum, out by the highway, a Super Wal-Mart stays open 24 hours a day and has a huge grocery store inside.

The town has a small community college that specializes in teacher education.

There's also a college of osteopathy.

Playing an ecstatic tune, this sculpture of a modern-day Dionysus stands right outside the town's visitor center.
